CROCKETT DESCENDANTS UNVEILS NEW MURAL AT ACTON CEMETERY

On Friday, September 5, 2025, The Direct Descendants & Kin of David Crockett (DDDC) unveiled a moderate size mural of the famous frontiersman’s journey through Texas at the entrance to the historic Acton Cemetery on the outskirts of Granbury, Texas.  The event was held at 11:00 AM.  The seven-foot mural is now a companion piece to the famous 1913 monument of Elizabeth Crockett, David’s second wife, who was laid to rest here in 1860 along with their son, Robert Patton Crockett, and several Crockett relatives.  Elizabeth’s grave and monument is located less than two hundred yards from the entrance.

Crockett descendant, Errol Flannery of Granbury feels that the visual quality of this mural will add to the visitor experience.  “This mural has so much visual quality and information to share, “Flannery insists, “that it will be a great asset for the area, whether you’re a visitor, history buff, or homeschooling your kids.”  Created and designed by Crockett historian and filmmaker Gary Foreman, also of Granbury, the mural’s first images (of many) began its journey in 2006.  Foreman traversed the state many times, making sure the route and the stories behind them were accurate.  He has blended superb images with amazing Texas history.  Prodigy Welding & Fabrication of Granbury created the framework and completed the installation.
