Love this website! I've always been told that my family is related to Davy Crockett somehow, and while I hope it's true, I have not yet found a connection. If anyone knows of a Crabtree branch of the Crockett tree, please post a message here for me. My grandfather was Elmer Crabtree of Fentress Co., TN. Thanks!

Hello,
My grandmother was Erma Powers Wilcoxson. She always told me that she was a 3rd or 4th cousin to David Crockett. She had a rifle of David's, bullet molds, hunting horn, etc. They were given to one of her cousins.
I'm trying to make the connection, but I do not know how she was related. Her father was W. J. Powers, and her mother was Laura Knipper.
Can you help me?

I have been a fan of Davy Crockett since I first saw the Disney show many years back. I've been to San Antonio and visited the Alamo back in 1959. I didn't realize the importance until later. My daughter attends college in Tennessee and she has promised me that we will visit Davy's birth place when I meet her at college in September. I am really looking forward to it!! If you can give me some other links to explore, I would be thrilled. Thank God for Davy Crockett!! I am proud to be an american because of heros that fought for our freedom and stood for honor as he did. Thank you for keeping his memory alive. Greg Bateman

HI, MY name is Lorraine, .. Found your web-site , and thought I would see if you could give me some information. As a child , my grandmother , told us grandkids, we were related to Davy Crockett, that he was our 4th great uncle. We thought this was neat. MY grandmother even had all these old pictures and stuff for us kids , when we became of age. Unfortuately, we had this cousin in the family who decided she needed them more than we did. Now they are lost forever. Anyways, my grandmother's name was , Nannie B. Crockett , She married my granddad, whose name was Jessie Frank Williamson. I don't know her dad's name though. I do know that my grandmother was a school teacher for 12 years of longer and lived in Houston, Texas. My Grandmother lived to be 96 years. and past away in 1994. All I can remember is that my grandmother said that her dad's Dad were like brother with Davy , I'm not sure... any information u can give me would be helpful. I"m also told that in Crockett ,Texas that there maybe relatives from there. I'm new at this so I'm not really sure how to go about it. Thank -you, Lorraine MY e-mail is lhulin2001us@yahoo.com

Hi, I am from northeast Arkansas and my family lore maintains that I am distantly related to Davey Crockett on my mother's side and I've been told this all of my life. To date I haven't researched this. While researching my paternal great grandfather who was in Company G of the 1st Arkansas Infantry Regiment, I found that "Bob Crockett, grandson of Davey Crockett and a great orator" was also in this Arkansas confederate unit. This would fit with Crockett's living in the same area as other maternal ancestors. Does anyone have any information on Crockett descendents in Arkansas? Please email to Syllamore@hotmail.com

I think your website is beautiful and informative. I am doing research on what happened 'after' the battle of the Alamo and what happened to the personal effects of Crockett and Bowie, such as Crockett's firearms and Bowie's famous knife. Can you recommend the current expert or scholar on this subject? I look forward to your suggestions. I already know quite a bit, but over the last ten years several experts died and I've lost touch with others who were leaders in this field of research. Thank you, Marc Wanamaker-Bison Archives.

Hello from California. My name is Karen Crockett Hood and I am here with my brother, David Lee Crockett We are originally from Texas. Our grandfather was David Daniel Crockett who passed away in approximately 1927 in Texas. Our father was Lee Crockett, passed away in 1983. Our cousins are doing a geneological research. I know we have a lot of Crockett's in our family but have just recently realized just how many are there we don't know about. Our cousins believe we are decendents of one of Davy's brothers. Still researching. This is a great site! Does anyone out there have any information or may know of David Daniel Crockett.(married to Hassie Salina Stokes) If so, please contact me at knhood@earthlink.net Thank you

I am Marc Wanamaker of the Bison Archives and have been researching the history of a Dickert-Gill long rifle owned by famed stage and film actor Hobart Bosworth. Mr. Bosworth was given the rifle in 1902 in Joplin Missouri by a curio dealer who said that the rifle was the one that Davy Crockett had with him when he died at the Alamo. The curio dealer had it for forty years. He got it from a farmer in the vicinity who had it for around 35 years. The farmer got it from an immigrant family from Mexico around 1840 who lived and worked on the farm until the Mexican worker died. The Mexican worker told the farmer that he was in Santa Ana's army and took the gun with him when the army broke up after its defeat by Sam Huston. The farmer remembered that there was a silver plate on the gun with the initials, DC. When the curio dealer got the gun sometime around 1880 the plate was missing. The marks of that plate still exist on the gun today. The rifle was checked out by the Texas State commission in 1903 and they wanted it. Bosworth promised it to them, but he never followed through. Bosworth used the rifle in one of the first films about Davy Crockett for the Selig film company in 1909 and later played the character Kit Carson in the Sacramento California Centennial using the rifle which was highly publicised in the press in the mid-twenties. The Bosworth family who owns the rifle most likely will donate it to the Alamo museum when my report is finished in a couple of years. Anyone who has any information to add to ask questions about this rifle is welcome to contact me at any time. Marc Wanamaker at bisonarchives@yahoo.com.

Love this site as always! I was at your reunion in San Antonio in '94. Larry Brenneman and I were asked to pose with y'all in front of the Alamo. I appreciated that. My cousin Susan was married to a Crockett and her son lives up here in my territory someplace. I run two clubs in Yahoo on the Alamo and, of course, always make reference to David crockett and have links to your site here. I will always remember your gracious accptance of me in Bexar in '94. I enjoyed myself very much. Thank you all. John Bourdage

Your website is very good. I ran across it while looking for a a Margaret Ann Crockett. She was supposed to be a daughter of Davy Crockett and Elizabeth Patton. I don't she her listed in the bio of Davy but have found her listed in other Crockett family trees but with no other information. I believe she married my Great Grand Uncle William Danier McIvor and had three children, May, Hallie Erskine McIvor and Frank A. McIvor. Would like to hear from you. Ed McIvor e-mail edmcivor@aol.com

Hello All -- this is your cousin, Helen, living in St. Louis, MO. My Grandmother, Grace Inez (Mother Grace), was a Crockett at birth, having three sisters and one brother, Jack. Jack died without descendants and, there, the sirname Crockett ended in our family -- to much sorrow. Still, every generation, we'll have a male child named David -- in honor. My Grandmother was born and raised in Obine County, Tennessee, and my mother's family all still reside in and around South Fulton, Tennessee. I happened to have married a man I've known since childhood -- and just recently discovered he is a direct descendant of John Colter (Yellowstone Discoverer/Lewis & Clark Expedition Member). I don't know if we'll conceive a child or not -- but just think -- a child of both lineages -- Davey Crockett and John Colter -- would we EVER be able to keep him home??? And isn't Jonathan David a good and strong name?

He married Sarah Kendrick b: in 1873 and died: July 1895 while giving birth to my great grandmother. I was told that Mchilrey's mother was Harriet Stewart but no father was mentioned. Just found out from a distant cousin that I descend from David Crockett. I am the granddaughter of Florence Crockett, b. 1882, in Martin, Tennessee. She died about 1914-1915. My father was orphaned at age 2 but his grandmother told him he was a descendent. I never believed it until now. Very nice website. Still trying to find out how my grandmother died and any information I can about her.

It's pretty cool to be able to pass along this heritage to my son who is doing a report for class on Davy. We're including our own geneaology for the visual part of the presentation and he can't wait to show the class a direct link between him and Davy!

Haven't visited the site in years. I am the 4th great-grandson of David, from the marriage with Polly Finley. Lineage was Charles Wesley Crockett, Mary Crockett Thape, John Tharpe, Mildred Tharpe Hope, Martha Hope Walker, and me! :) For years, I heard all the stories and family history, but as a child....who listened? My Grandmother (Mildred) grew up in Paris/Cottage Grove and was the family "historian". She never forgave Mr. Disney for the folk stories that he did for "Davy".....or, as she referred to him as "David". I was not aware that David was a member of the Masonic Fraternity until I visited The Alamo and sow a plaque that the Grand Lodge of Texas mounted recognizing the members of the Fraternity who died at the Alamo. Would love to hear from other Direct Decendendants. Bill in Washington State wfwalker@aol.com

I attended another family reunion in Grand Berry, Texas several years ago.It was held at the same motel that the Crockett reunion was held.. Most of the folks in the 4th of July parade were Crockett family. I have since found that I could have been at that reunion. My family is related about five or six generations back. We are related through John Crockett and his wife Margaret Nancy Rooker .I think this is a fine websight. Sonny

My name is Lotte, I am danish and 35 years old. My father introduced me to books about Davy when I was about 4 years old. Since then I have read these several times - more likely a hundred times - and a lot of other stuff about Davy. These books became my all time favorite and started a live-long interest for Davy, indians and America. Davy came to mean a lot to me and he has influenced me - my values of life. He was not only a great american hero - he was a great man. We could all learn a lot from him. Thank You Davy.

I love the site. Still looking good after all these years. Having read the book based on the new movie script, I bet you folks must cringe at the thought of how they portray David. Revisionists will love it. I'm not anxious to see it myself, but will for review purposes.

Greetings: I've been told that I am a descendant of D. Crockett and know that my paternal grandfather was named David Crockett as was one of his sons (my Uncle). He also perfromed in a band called "David Crockett and the Mountain Boys" or something close. After divorcing my Grandmother, Edna, he went West like his namesake. My Grandmother remarried and took the name "Allen" and her two sons grew up with this name. Later, my Uncle researched his genealogy while in the Airforce and connected us somehow to David Crockett of Alamo fame. My Uncle passed away recently and apparently this research is lost. Any help or direction in piecing together this connection and also finding other relatives of my Granfather would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Clayton E. Allen Long Lost Kin?
Post Script: Please excuse me for neglecting to include e-mail in the previous comments. It is: clayton.allen4@verizon.net Thanks again Clayton E. Allen

They both died when my grandmother (Eloise Hudspeth-King) was only about 8 years old, so we don't know much about them. I'd like to find out more to see if there is a family connection to Col. David Crockett. Your suggestions? Thanks! Mark Struble, Carson City, Nevada

Crocketts sense of homour and keen witts as well as his uncomon grasp of common sense and human nature, got alot of common people through the hardest part of life, that life comes to an end and none of us will get out of it alive, thanks David, James Butler Boneham
Not sure if I have signed the guest book before. I'm not even sure if I am a direct descendent. My grandfather was Birch Crockett, born in Mexico, Missouri. He died in 1918 in Arizona. I am a descendant of Elijah B. Crockett, from Obion County, Tennessee. We are 'shoestring' relatives of David Crockett. He would be my 5th or 6th cousin. My grandmother never had a nice word to say about David, I really don't know why, she got it from her mother, Alma Crockett. Nice web site. I'm just beginning my search for family. www.beveridgefamilies.com
I was so happy to discover this site on David Crockett. I have three children and nine grandchildren that are decendents of David Crockett. My late mother-in-law was Virginia Dare Crockett of Missouri . She had two brothers, Randolph Will Crockett and Gordon George Crockett. We have papers showing the line back to David Crockett through their mothers side of family. Five of my grandchildren carry the Crockett name as their middle name, and my oldest son carries the name: Robert Crockett Waers II, as did his father. We all live in California. Would love to hear from anyone with any information on the Crockett line....Jo Ann

Hello, My name is Joe Rivas. I have multiple family Members that were in the Battle of the Alamo, Both with Davey and twith Satna Anna. My Grandmother, born Delta Ruth Evans said that we are reaated to Davey himself. Her father was named David Crockett. The problem I am having is that her last name was Evans and not Crockett. I have a Genealogy book written by a Fred Chabot called "with the Makers of Texas" where it traces my Grandfather to The Padron family of Texas. Where it talks about my Grandpa it lists my grandmother and only lists her father as David Crockett with no name of Evasn attached. Does anyone know if there wasa decendant of Davey that took the name Evans along the way and where I could maybe find some information on them? Thanks in advance. Have a great day.
Thoroughly enjoyed the site. Eager to find my relatives on the Hawkins side. Was excited to find that my ties will connect to Rebecca Hawkins one of these days. Phyllis Hamman

Hi ... like the site ... hope you all have a lovely get together at the 2004 re-union. Doug Crockett (UK)
Howdy, I have been a Davy fan since I was 3 years old and saw Fess Parker as Davy. I am now 51 and my interest in anything "Davy" or the Alamo is stronger than ever. I go to San Antonio each March for 'High Holy Days" and I have met Carolyn and Joe Cotten, who are decendants. I am a member of the 'Alamo Society' and the 'Alamo Battlefield Association', and I would love to join you as a 'Friend of Davy'. I really believe that this nation was built by men like David Crockett, and we must do everything to make sure that those memories stay alive always. In this day and age, we need heroes and Davy is a true American Hero. Not a superman, but a real man. Thanks
well, I am related on david crockett's mom's side. I don't know where that puts me but I recently visited my grandmother's house in kentucky and she gave me many pictures of cousins and other members of the crockett family. If you could help with any information it would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, Tiger22
This is a great site! Having been fortunate enough to retrace some of Col. Crockett's steps in East Tennessee, the photos bring back a lot of great memories!

My father was Warren Robert Wilson Born in Beechhill West Virginia. Stephen Fuller Austin the founder of Austin, Texas is one of my great grand father and his father also, Moses Austin. I am 9th generation American, My dad was 8th generation. I had a son and he was 10th generation. I am looking for information on my fathers family.
Greetings! My late paternal grandfather, Howard Bruce Crockett, was born in 1902 in Humphreys County, Tennessee. He was born to James "Pap" Crockett (13 Sept. 1862 - 20 June 1955) and Maggie Hampton Crockett (17 Aug 1882 - 19 march 1960). Family stories are abundant. But as my Grandfather used to teach me, "It's not as important which family name a man is born in to, as what he does to add to it during his lifetime." I kind of think they're both important! Thank you, Paul Hampton Crockett Miami, FL

I am a 5th great grand niece of Davy Crockett, and very proud of it. I am looking to verify information about the family name... I am told that the name was Decrocketagne (french version) until between 1672-1674 when the family left France and settled in Bantry Bay, Ireland. Then it was changed to Crockett. Can anyone confirm this information for me? This is the first time I have visited this web site, I think it is awesome! I would also be interested in getting a descendant book if possible. How?
